Nectarine Tree – a variety of peach, which differs from it primarily in that the nectarine fruit has a smooth skin. Studying the origin of this plant, it was assumed that it may have something to do with plum. However, this option was ruled out during the studies. Nectarine derives directly from peach and the lack of a characteristic fuzz is explained by the existence of a recessive gene. The largest producers of these fruits are: Italy, Spain, France, Greece and the United States. It is also cultivated in Poland.

Nectarine fruits have a smooth, orange-yellow skin and weigh from 100 to 200 g. In the middle of the fruit, there is a large stone that smoothly comes away from the juicy and tasty pulp. They contain a lot of vitamin C which improves immunity.

The consumption of nectarines significantly delays the aging process. Moreover, these fruits are rich in vitamins B, E and K. Nectarines are usually intended for current consumption. They can also be dried, candied, used as an addition to ice cream or cakes, as well as turned into products such as compotes, juices, jellies and jams.

Nectarine is a quite difficult tree to grow. It is grown mainly in the west of Poland. For proper growth, nectarines need a place protected from cold gusts of wind. They grow best on warm, permeable, moderately moist and humus soils. Trees and their flowers are very sensitive to spring frosts.

The most common varieties of nectarines are: Red Gold, Fantasia, Harco, Hardried, Flat-fruit nectarine and Harblaze.
