Plum is a genus of trees, as well as shrubs, of the Rosaceae family. Currently, we distinguish as many as approx. 200 species. Plums in the decorative and cultivated variety are widespread all over the world, although they most often occur in the temperate and warm northern hemisphere.

Plum trees and shrubs usually reach from a few dozen centimeters to 4 metres. The plum fruit is a small spherical or elongated edible stone fruit. It is commonly called a plum. Depending on the variety and degree of ripeness, these fruits take on the following colours: violet, yellow, red, purple.

Plum tree is a popular plant because its fruits are tasty, valuable and healthy, while the cultivation itself is quite simple. Plum trees grow best in warm and secluded places sheltered from the wind. In addition, plum trees do not like frost, moisture, fog and cold. They grow best in warm and airy soils; slightly clayey and clayey-sandy soils.

The most popular species of plums are: Amers, Bluefree, Cacanska, Empress, Herman, Japońska Kometa (Russian variety of the Japanese plum), Katinka, Victoria plum, Green Renkloda, Stanley, Dąbrowicka Purple Plum, Early Purple Plum, Common Purple Plum.
